Director of Research, Anchor Center for Blind Children

Cathy Smyth, Ph.D., is the Director of Research at Anchor Center for Blind Children in Denver, Colorado. She has provided support for families in early intervention in the area of visual impairment for over thirty years as a teacher of students with visual impairment. Her research interests include concept development and tactual assessments for young children with visual impairment, how vision loss affects the mealtime process, using tele-intervention for EI vision services, and early visual screening for infants. Over the past four years, Dr. Smyth has partnered with Robert King, M.D., and local hospital neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and developed training of a standardized version of the Neonatal Assessment Vision European Grid (NAVEG) which shows promise as a credible newborn vision screening tool.
